From Farms to the World: The Journey of UKH Global Passion Fruit to Australia

Every UKH Global passion fruit begins its journey in the highlands of Đơn Dương, Lâm Đồng. From careful cultivation and harvesting to packing, irradiation and air freight, each stage is closely managed before the fruit reaches customers in Australia.

At every stage, strict quality control helps preserve the fruit’s quality, freshness, appearance, and distinctive tropical aroma while meeting strict Australia’s import requirements.

Grown in the Highlands of Đơn Dương

UKH Global’s purple and yellow passion fruits are sourced mainly from partner farms in Đơn Dương, one of Lâm Đồng’s important agricultural regions.

Situated more than 1,000 metres above sea level, Đơn Dương enjoys a naturally cool highland climate, with warm daylight, cooler evenings and distinct rainy and dry seasons. Its fertile red basalt and alluvial soils provide favourable conditions for healthy vines and consistent fruit development, helping produce vibrant fruit with juicy golden pulp.

UKH Global works closely with growers to monitor quality from the farm. Fruit intended for Australia is grown under carefully managed farming and crop-protection practices designed to meet applicable Australian Maximum Residue Limits and export requirements.

As the fruit approaches maturity, vines and fruit stems are carefully secured with small support clips. This prevents ripe passion fruit from falling directly onto the ground, helping reduce bruising, skin damage and contact with soil.

The fruit is then harvested at the appropriate maturity and inspected for colour, shape, skin condition and overall export quality.

Carefully Selected and Packed

After harvesting, the passion fruit is transported to the packing facility for inspection, sorting and export preparation.

Each batch is inspected, cleaned, sorted and graded according to variety, size, colour, shape and quality. Unsuitable fruit is removed, while export-quality fruit is carefully packed into secure cartons with the required labels and traceability information.

UKH Global’s current 2 kg specifications include:

  • Grade A: 29–36 fruits per carton
  • Grade B: 20–28 fruits per carton

Packing formats can also be adjusted according to the importer’s requirements and intended use.

UKH Global closely oversees the handling process to maintain consistency, protect the fruit’s skin and preserve its juicy pulp. Export cartons are designed to provide ventilation, product protection and biosecurity compliance during transport.

Phytosanitary Irradiation for Australia

Once packed, passion fruit intended for Australia is transported to an approved irradiation facility.

Fresh passion fruit from Vietnam must receive pre-export phytosanitary irradiation at a minimum absorbed dose of 400 Gy. This treatment helps manage quarantine pests such as fruit flies, mealybugs, scale insects and false spider mites.

Irradiation does not make the fruit radioactive. It is an internationally recognised phytosanitary treatment designed to manage pest risks while preserving the fruit’s taste, texture and appearance.

The treatment forms part of a wider export process that includes pre-export inspection, phytosanitary certification, secure packaging, traceability documentation and a valid import permit. Every stage is carefully managed to meet the applicable Australian standards.

Exported by Air for Freshness

After irradiation and final documentation checks, the cartons are prepared for air freight to Australia.

Air shipment significantly reduces the time between packing in Vietnam and arrival in the Australian market. This makes it particularly suitable for fresh passion fruit, helping maintain freshness, appearance and eating quality throughout the journey.

From the fertile highlands of Đơn Dương to customers in Australia, UKH Global manages the journey with a strong focus on quality, traceability and reliable delivery.
